Program Coordinator and Elmira Express Varsity Coach Jason Stukey has joined forces with the Southport Recreation Associciation to provide a summer rec. league lacrosse option in Elmira. The program will be at Universal Park this year.
In this program players will be divided into smaller teams and play games on a reduced sized field. Emphasis will be on skills development and fun in a less competitive setting.
This program is a great place to try lacrosse as a new player. It also gives returning travel team players a place to improve their skills in the off season.
The game is played using the boys lacrosse rules, modified considerably for instructional purposes. Note: The rules for girls lacrosse are entirely different.
Practices will be two evenings a week plus games on Friday evenings. This program is much more casual than the Spring Travel Program. If you have to miss some days due to summer camps, lake time, or vacations that is not a problem. Sign up and make it as often as your busy summer schedule allows.
The cost is only $30. No US Lacrosse membership is required. Players must have their own stick, which should be regulation size but need not be expensive. (See "Sticks" under Equipment and Uniforms on this website.) Male players should wear a cup and all players need a mouthguard. Southport Rec has several sets of full equipment which will be loaned out free of charge on a first come, first served basis.
